Happy Birthday Sister

I am so borrowing this from a friends blog. :)

Today is my cute sister's birthday. Not to be TOO cheesy, I wanted to jot a few my favorite memories of her.

  • Playing Little House on the Prairie, when mom made us our pioneer bonnets.
  • BARBIES BARBIES BARBIES!!!! (especially your homemade Christmas lights for the Barbie house. Hole punch with multi colored construction paper and yarn. You have a festive house)
  • Our cool poses we made when they let us do what we want when our picture was taken.
  • Making the stairs into a sledding hill with sleeping bags.
  • Taking the cushions off the couch and jumping in them and dancing to the ultra cool records mom & dad had.
  • Making a bowling alley down the hall, using cups as the pins and dad's bowling ball.
  • You babysitting us and threatening to call Santa and tell him not to come this year. We were brats.. I am sorry for that.
  • Lambda Delta Sigma.. sisters we are true.. (we both know it will always be Kappa Theta)
Happy Birthday Stacy!! I love you sister! I hope you have a fun day!

It's a Christmas Miracle!

Thank you everyone who kept their fingers crossed. This past week has been a rough and emotional one.

Tradition... Tradition!!

A couple of days before Christmas Eve, my mom, sisters and I get together to make the traditional Christmas treats.
We first start off and make Sand Cookies. This comes from my mom's side of the family.
You press what is the consistency of sugar cookie dough into a sort of tart shell. After being baked you fill with whipped cream and strawberry preserves. YUM!

The final product!

The 2nd thing we make are a tradition from my dad's side of the family. Candy cane cookies. It is a very stiff oatmeal cookie sort of dough that you shape into candy canes. After they are baked you dip them in a very thin powdered sugar icing then piped with red icing.

Tot, Bean, and sister

I helped with the red icing part. Can you find my name? I don't think I will be asked to do this next year. :)

Bug "helping". Woops!
We also make Julekake (pronounced Yule kaw ke). It is a sweet, dense Norwegian bread filled with citron and raisins. But being the picky eaters my mom will make at least one batch without the goo.

The next item that we made was what we call.. Cereal Crack. (see above) This stuff is SERIOUSLY addicting. This isn't tradition, and just made it this year in our Holiday bake day. Let's just say each of us took a bag of this home. My teeth hurt.

After a day of baking and loads of sugar, Bug & Buddy decided to take a break and watch a movie! So cute.
These are memories that will last a lifetime, I love spending time with my family. I love them all so very much!

Happy Holidays!

As some of you may know, I am in the process of moving and things have been so hectic, that I haven't had time to sit down and write out cards this year. For this, I do apologize.
In lieu of a card.. I decided to go the "technical" route and send out "Christmas Cheer" this way.

I hope each and every one of you, as well as your families, have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Love,

Tina the "Twerd" (Twilight + Nerd)

Fingers crossed

Just as a heads up...
Everyone.. keep your fingers crossed. I closed on my townhouse the other day, now I am just waiting for the people that are buying the house to get all of their paper work together. I am at about the breaking point from the stress, and trying not to get too worried. Just keeping our fingers crossed..

Slipped

What is it with me and slips? For some reason they don't like to stay put. I have had a couple instances where this has happened. Twice at work, lovely. The 3rd time happened yesterday evening.
I was getting my hair done and after getting my hair washed, the hair dresser took me over to get a paraffin wax on my hands. Dip, dip dip the hands go into the wax, hands covered in plastic and then "warming mitts" (looks like oven mitts but without thumbs) are placed over the plastic. As we are walking towards the station I felt the slip start to fall. Ok, I now have no hands to be able to catch it and hold in place. Down to the floor it went. So, now how do you "discretely" pick up the slip that is now around your ankles? Do I kick it over to the hair dressers station? Eww no. Do I try and pick it up with the gloves. That would be like a little kid trying to pick up something in mittens. Scoop.. dang it.. scoop.. dang it. I immediately say, oh how embarrassing, and the hairdresser thought I had lost my cape and bent down to grab it. She then realized what it was and said it's ok, this isn't the first time something like this has happened here and shoves it into my handbag. I know it probably wasn't the first time something like that has happened there, but, still I wish it wouldn't have happened in front of a bunch of women. Guess it could be worse and it was all men, as what happened the 2nd time.
I don't know which is more embarrassing, this or the time I was at a work bowling party and a tripped and fell "into the lane". Well, I guess I will have to say the bowling incident. Stupid oily lanes. I feel better because it could have been more embarrassing.. but now I am re-living the bowling incident.

Dad's Birthday

We celebrated my dad's 60th birthday a couple days early. We had been planning on doing a surprise party and when everything was set, we realized.. dun dun dunnnnnnnn.. it was going to be the same day as the HOLY WAR Football game. UvsY. Oh no worries we thought.. the game will be early and we can get my dad to the party on time. WRONG.. late game. Started at 4 and the party started at 6:00. YIKES what are we going to do?

After going through scenarios from mom's car can break down to the kids have planned a special dinner for you and this night was the only night everyone could get together. We decided to do the special dinner planned story but, that didn't go off as well as we thought. After many phone calls to my brother, from my dad, asking that we postpone dinner to possibly another night.... my mom was finally able to convince him in her "special" way (basically telling him HE IS GOING!!).

The time came when the guest of honor arrived just before the door was opened and the lights were turned back on we heard.... 'we can't go into the room this isn't the restaurant'. After everyone had yelled surprise.. he was very surprised.. He felt a little sheepish wanting the dinner postponed.

Dinner was fantastic! Of course it was, Travis did it all! Thanks brother for doing that and getting everything together, room, food, drink and TV wise (we were able to get a TV into the room so the rest of the game could be viewed). You are the best! Also, thank you to everyone who traveled near and far to come and celebrate with our family!!

Burnt Toast

So I am sitting here at work and the fire alarm came on today. Panic to the heart was the first reaction, the second reaction or thought was someone must have pulled the alarm by mistake. 3rd thought oh I need to finish this before we are "not to panic and line up in a single file" I didn't want to lose my notes. (heaven for bid I have to re-type notes). 4th thought.. I need to go to the bathroom. (for those of you who didn't read one of my first 2 posts, since the 2nd grade I have been afraid of any type of fire alarm).
Managers go around to see what the problem is and report back that someones toast had burned in the toaster. After hearing this I immediately think of The Office episode where the "RYAN STARTED THE FIRE" and I start to sing it. .
Fire department did show up, flashing lights and the alarm going off every now and then. This made for a fun Friday. Now if I had a group to play deserted island with. ANY WHO... I had to blog about it, because to me, it was just too funny.
Another thought just came to mind... why didn't we form a single line and exit the building? Hmmm

Thankful

As I am reflecting on this past year, I have much to be thankful for. I tried to make a list, but I kept getting side tracked, so I will go from the heart.

I am thankful for family and friends that love me as I love them. A job, so that I may have a car to drive, put food on the table and a roof over my head. The gospel in my life and a testimony and knowing I am a Child of God.

To everyone I know and love, Happy Thanksgiving.

Bobina's Quirks

I was tagged by Janessa.

Here are the rules:

* Link the person who tagged you.
* Mention rules on your blog.
* Tell about 6 quirks of yours.
* Tag 6 fellow bloggers to do the same.
* Leave a comment to let them know

My Quirks:

1. I am VERY picky about my Diet Coke. I would prefer a fountain diet coke over a 2 liter or can. I can handle those, but seriously, to me, fountain is better. I will only go to certain places to get a fountain drink. Sonic is #1 (crushed ice with fresh lime), Holiday Oil (in Draper or West Jordan) and then Wendy's. I have limited myself to 32 ounces a day (believe me you don't want to know where it used to be). Hope to cut down more. (Yes, I did just say that)
2. Cotton Balls or Cotton Swabs. Let's just say hee bee jee bees. I cannot stand touching them dry. I pick up the cotton ball by my finger nails or tweezers and then place it on the counter and will soak a cotton ball before using it, whether that be with astringent or polish remover. Cotton swabs will be wet by the bathroom faucet before being placed inside my ear. (I am getting the chills as I am typing this)
3. I ALWAYS were socks to bed. Grant it they are usually off by morning, but they are placed back on the feet before getting out of bed. Bare feet on carpet gives me the heebs.
4. I am anal retentive. (the attached picture is off a SNL skit.) Well, not about my room mind you, but about certain things. Photos, crafts, projects at work etc. If it doesn't look right I will completely start over.
5. Ever since the 2nd grade I have been obsessed with the weather. I will always watch or look up the 5 day forecast.

6. I hate being the passenger in a car. I am a very bad back or side seat driver. I try to work on it I do, but I can't help it. Ask my sister about California. :)

I tag: If you are reading this I tag you, unless you don't feel up to it. :)

Twilight - The Movie

Ok I know I am not a movie critic, but I am going to give my 2 cents any way. I saw it twice on Friday. Friday in the afternoon with Rachel & her sister Katie and then again with my sisters and mom that evening. I caught more the 2nd time I watched it. I will most likely see it again with my niece.

I really liked the movie. A lot. I loved the scenery, the music and some of the "puns" they had, like the 'italiano' dinner they were making (was that in the book?) and the graduation caps etc. I really liked the baseball scene. That is probably because of the song that was playing.
It wasn't the book, (but seriously what book made into a movie is?) and I accepted the fact that Emmett wasn't Edward (Emmett was more of what my Edward looked like just with a bit longer hair and not so home boy-ish). But I thought they followed the story line pretty well. Now, some of the special effects meaning the "dazzling" part, I thought was a bit under done, and wasn't what I pictured at all.... but what can you do? I know they didn't have the budget to do more like they wanted to (nerd alert.. I did a bit of research), but with what they had I thought it was done pretty well. I have heard several people that have not liked it, and that is ok, I am not going to scream back ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I just read the announcement that they are going to continue with New Moon. I am excited, although this wasn't my favorite book. No Emmett, I mean Edward. :)

California

I am back and I have to say it is good yet sad to be home. Many memories were made this trip. We left 35 degree weather and arrived to 80 degree weather with a slight breeze. It was heaven. The weather was perfect all week long.
We arrived pretty early in the morning and feared we would have to lug our suitcases around until the 3:00 check in time. Much to our amazement we were able to check in early! Hurray!
After relaxing and doing a bit of shopping, we headed to the beach. It was beautiful! I seriously could live there. It was nice to be able to hear the sounds of the waves and rub my feet in the sand. It was so relaxing.

(Just as an FYI, because we heard about it non stop from my dad. This isn't cloud cover, it is smoke from the fires that were happening while we were there).

That night we had yummy Mexican food that we randomly picked off the GPS. Ok this is one thing I would HIGHLY recommend. Get a GPS. This was a life saver for us. Type in an address or the name of a place you are looking for. Bing it gives you a list of suggestions or plans the route for you and when to turn.
The next 3 days were spent at Disneyland. Disneyland was just as I remembered and to sum it all up in one word. Magical. I was so excited to see it decorated for Christmas. There is something about this place that you enter and you immediately smile, despite the fact that you are getting hit in the ankles with strollers.
We were greeted with a line of characters and our first stop was Mickey. Snap a photo is taken and then a red light starts to blink. BAH.. I forgot to charge my camera battery. Bugger. So our first day there I wasn't able to capture much. But I will post what I do have from all 3 days.

After waiting in line for over 2 1/2 hours, my niece was able to meet ALL of the Princesses and get their autographs. I can hear your voices saying 2 1/2 hours are you kidding me?! Well here is the kicker. Each Princess rotates every 15 minutes. So when it is your turn in line again, there is 2 princesses that you have already met along with 1 new one. I am not upset that they rotate. Good word if I had to be in a get up like that I would want to rest every 15 minutes too.
I would highly recommend going to Disneyland OFF season. Grant it they do close earlier and you are taking kids out of school, but it is cheaper hotel wise, and the lines.. seriously the longest we waited in line for a ride was 20 minutes and that was for Toy Story, which was a new ride introduced this year. Most of the rides we were able to get directly onto the ride and sometimes ride it twice. We were able to ride almost every ride in the park our first day there.

During this trip I am not as young as I thought I was. Riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad twice in a row did a doozy on me. I am still dizzy.
I will always remember the smiles, laughter, and excitement in faces, getting teary eyed while watching Fantasmic and my niece asking me 100 questions about what each ride entails. The churros, the ice cream (mmm get the strawberry from Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor to die for), dole whip float, the apple of the month (chocolate dipped with peanut butter drizzle), and the kettle corn.
We were very tired and our feet were killing us by the end of each day but it was totally worth it.

This trip was a memorable one. I am looking forward to next year.

Beach and Sun here we come!

I am headed to the great state of California! Can't wait to put my feet in the sand and get my Mickey Mouse Balloon that I so wanted when I was 6. (see below)

Keep your phones close by, because you know I am going to be texting and sending pictures of any great and wonderful people watching that I come across. Sunglasses check, Diet coke check.

See you in a week!

*Tuh* It's dead to me

I love the snow... I just don't like driving it, or around people that don't know how to drive in it. I fear for my life when Mr or Ms 4x4 feel that just because they have four wheel drive they can go 90 miles an hour and weave in and out of traffic.
My cute friend Melanie left me a nice bottle of chilled Diet Coke at my desk this morning. After prying my cold, dead, white knuckled fingers off my steering wheel, I either needed a cigarette or a Diet Coke. Glad to see a Diet Coke sitting at my desk this morning. Stupid sexy snow.

Merry Thanksgiving?

For those of you who may not listen to the radio all that often. If you need your Christmas fix there is a local radio station that is playing nothing but Christmas music. Don't get me wrong I love Christmas music, but not the day after Halloween.
What ever happened to Thanksgiving?

Happy Halloween!

The picture is from the trunk-or-treat shin-dig my company did. I hope I can get more tonight!
Are they seriously just not the CUTEST?

W-I-L-D Wildcats

Nerd alert.

I saw High School Musical 3 the other day. 2 words. LOVED IT. The movie was cheesy in some areas, especially when Gabriella kept saying 'love you Wildcat' (gag). But the music and dancing made up for the cheesiness.

The music was AWESOME. I wondered how they were going to top the music from the 2nd movie and boy did they ever. The first couple of songs are from the movie.

Being even a bigger nerd, I shed a tear or two in a couple parts.
Call me a tween-er all you want, I don't care.

Nine Words Women Use

I received this through an email and had to post.. because, to me, it is SO TRUE!

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').

(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying an explicit word or two

(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?'

Say Goodbye to Grandma..

As I was dropping my nephew off at "school" this afternoon, the teacher that met us at the door said....
"Say good-bye to your Grandma, Kaden". I must of had the look of 'I can't believe she just called me a grandma' on my face, because she responded, "It's Grandma, correct?" My response, 'No, I am actually his aunt'. "Oh, ok" and she walks away.

Ok, this was NOT a student, this was a woman in her mid 40's. I am not offended one bit, just more in shock. I know I had about 2 inches of re-growth. But, COME ON!!!! Grandma? Luckily I had an appointment just after dropping him off to get my roots done.

Which Princess are you?

Totally "borrowed" this idea from Janessa's blog. Hmm I hope I don't sound like Snow White when I sing. "I'm wishing...."

You Are Snow White!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Pure and trusting. You are a gentle soul who can get along with just about anyone. Everyone you meet instantly falls in love with you. How can they resist? You have a pure, lovable nature that's irresistable. Just don't trust everyone who comes across your path.

Singed nose hairs

I was doing a bit of shopping the other day and walked past a very 'musky' smell. This smell seriously brought tears to my eyes and burned my nose. I couldn't believe how strong this scent was. I looked back trying to see if I had possibly walked through a cloud of it, you know like the cloud of dirt that follows Pig Pen off a Charlie Brown cartoon, I didn't. I then looked around trying to find who the smell might have belonged to and realized to myself, WHY would I want to try and find the source.

Now I am a girl who enjoys a good smelling guy, but this seriously made me want to gag.
So here's to you, 'Mr too much cologne wearer'. Thanks to you, I still have the smell inbeded in my nose.

2nd time around..

I just finished reading the first 3 books of the Twilight Series for the second time. I have to say that I got a lot out of reading them again. Also, have to say that I couldn't help but picture the characters from the movie while I was reading. I am a bit bummed because 'my Edward' was seriously a smokin' hottie!

Randomness of thoughts.. I know.

3rd Annual Craft Cabin Weekend

For the past 3 years, a couple girls from work and I get together for a craft weekend up at Tracie's family cabin in Oakley.

Here are a some pictures of what is required to make this a snugly fun weekend.

Snow - a must, except to drive in it. Tracie kept telling me she was going to either give me a sedative OR knock me out with a shoe in order to get me down the mountain when we left.
LUCKILY - it wasn't snowing when we left. (must have been my lucky scrunchie)

Cozy socks. Or my winky parn sockies. (pinky warm fuzzy sockies).

Stack O' Movies - a definite must. How else are you supposed to craft when no movie is on?

A cozy place to sleep. You can't see my bed (I am standing by it when I took the picture.)

NAPS!! These are a definite must also. Goes to show you how much fun we were having, these girls didn't even wake up when I took the picture.

No snack bag here. We had the SNACK CABINET!!! Craving something chocolate, salty or sweet? Need some hot chocolate? You could find anything and everything in this cabinet/

We... ok I shouldn't say "we", Tracie and Teresa, winterized the cabin before we left. I "helped" by grabbing towels and wiping out the toilet tank. GO ME! They did everything else.
We entered the cabin as girls and left as WOMEN!!

Tracie draining the umm drains. :)

This is a true friend. Teresa, being the true friend that she is, will sponge out the toilet bowl. I love her face the best!

The main drain of the house, in the basement.
It was another fun weekend girls! Thanks for the memories!
I would post what I did for the weekend, but yeah I didn't do anything crafty. I read, napped and watched movies. It was wonderful.

Hand Bag Heaven

Let me set the scene.

A few weeks ago, on a lazy Sunday morning, I received a text from my sister stating: 'I am on Canal Street what kind of handbag would you like'? (Ok, this is like asking a kid in a candy store you can only choose 1 piece of candy, but make sure it is your favorite piece because we don't know when we will be back to partake of the candy store again).

Immediately I think to myself PINK!!! I then rush to my closet to make sure I don't ask for the same kind but just in a different color. Variety here Tina. (Mindi & Misha have helped me break out of the black, and brown hand bag mold)

I text her back frantically with 'WHAT YOU ARE IN NEW YORK!? Jealous' and then texted.. 'Pink handbag alligator print'. (My friend Tracie had a very cute pink alligator print that I have been coveting for a couple of years now.)

So, being the awesome sister that she is, she brings me back the following hand bag. (and yes I did check the name to make sure it didn't say COUCH or FOACH)

Pink is my signature color! Thank you Kristin I HEART it!

It's ELECTRIC!! Boogie Woogie Woogie...

Ok so here is a blast from the past. I had quite the awesome song on my Ipod tonight that brought back memories. It was the ever wonderful song called 'Somebody' by Depeche Mode. Oh how I wanted somebody to share.. share the rest of my life.. share my inner most thoughts.. know my intimate details. (ummm maybe not yet.)

ANY WHO... this song brought back so many memories. The memory I had was from the many Stake Dances and the ever wonderful Stomps that my friends and I attended during High School and then our College years.
Snowbird, Saltair and the Cultural Hall gym floors at the Salt Lake, Orem and Sandy Institutes will always hold a special place in my heart. Too bad I am allergic now.
Yo Jana wanna dance?.... No thanks, I'm allergic.... To Dancin?!

Memories that come to mind.

  • The wall of heat that hit you when you entered the cultural hall.
  • Being hit with sweat from someone in 'the group' flipping their hair back and forth.
  • Being the 'friend saver' and keeping your friend distant from the person they didn't want to dance with.
  • Groaning when they played the "extended" version of Boot Scootin Boogie.
  • Doing the sprinkler, shopping cart, lumberjack, super model to the beat of any song.
  • Wishing so badly the cute boy I liked would ask me to dance.
  • Crying that the cute boy didn't ask me to dance.
  • Telling a guy who asked Melanie & I if either one of us would like to dance. Melanie & I telling him to come back later. (This was my first Stake Dance.. cut me some slack)
  • Leaving every time a slow song came on so the fear of me having to stand there alone would not come true. (gee, I wonder why I was never asked to dance.. seriously Tina).

I attended a "stomp" a couple of years ago and realized, no matter how old you get they always stay the same.

So enjoy some of the music and dance if you feel inclined to do so. I surely did (and didn't even break out in hives).

I get to see a face like this almost every morning! "Buddy" greets you with a smile and a HIIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!! every time you get him in the morning or getting him after he has taken his nap.

It starts his aunts day on a happy note!

Hold on to your hats everyone...

Whoa!! Is this what I think it is? Could it be???? Carpet?!?! Bed is made?!?!?!? It can't be...Pinch me to see if this is for real....

No you are not dreaming. This is a current picture of my room. Proof that yes, Tina's room can be clean.
Mom if you are viewing this you can close your mouth now, as well as any one else that can't believe it either.
Let's hope I can keep it this way.

Sweet Sixteen

OK seriously why did I watch this show?! Because, I am a nerd like that and there wasn't anything else good that was on.

I just have to vent a bit of frustration.
What 16 year old should have a party that costs over $30,000? Fly to Europe, Vegas, New York to find the perfect dress... and change their outfit 4-5 times in one night. Have the latest, hippest band sing, get a brand new car, and be a total obnoxious brat when something doesn't go their way? Next year and the years to follow they will only expect bigger and better things.

I will always cherish my 16th birthday. My mom made me a delicious chocolate cake, and watched 'Chances Are' with a couple of my friends.

Did I bawl and whine like a baby because I dropped chocolate cake on my shirt, Robert Downey Jr was not at my house watching it with us and I didn't get a brand new car?

No, in fact I didn't even change my shirt. I even enjoyed a second piece of cake while pausing the movie, VHS mind you, at the just right moment towards the end where he is looking down and then looks back up. Also, worried how I was going to learn how to drive the hand-me-down car.
Yes, I will never forget my first car that I had to share with my brother.

Here it is, in all it's glory. Same color too, before my brother spray painted it black.

And we wonder why the youth of America are the way they are today?
Now I am sounding more and more like my parents. But I am grateful for how I was brought up. I was brought up to work hard for what I want and not expect it to be handed to me or throw a fit when it wasn't.

Next time I am just going to change the channel. Seriously.
